🍂 Baked Cinnamon Apple Butter French Toast with Maple Cream

The ultimate cozy fall breakfast! Warm challah bread layered with sweet apple butter, cinnamon apples, and a creamy maple topping — perfect for weekends, holidays, and family gatherings.


📝 Ingredients

French Toast Bake

  • 1 loaf challah bread (cut into 1½-inch slices)

  • 1 cup apple butter

  • 6 large eggs

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 6 tablespoons salted butter (melted + browned)

  • 2 Honeycrisp apples (thinly sliced)

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Maple Whipped Cream

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

  • ½ cup maple syrup

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 tablespoons bourbon (or 1 tablespoon vanilla)

  • Pinch of sea salt


👩‍🍳 Instructions

Step 1 — Prep the bread

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

  • Arrange challah slices in a greased baking dish.

  • Spread apple butter between each slice like a sandwich.

Step 2 — Make the custard

  • Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and the browned butter.

  • Pour evenly over the bread.

Step 3 — Add cinnamon apples

  • Layer sliced apples on top.

  • Sprinkle brown sugar + cinnamon over everything.

Step 4 — Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake 30 minutes.

  • Remove foil, bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and caramelized.

Step 5 — Make the Maple Whipped Cream

  • Warm maple syrup with cinnamon sticks for 5 minutes. Cool.

  • Whip syrup with heavy cream, bourbon/vanilla, and sea salt until fluffy.

Step 6 — Serve

  • Spoon maple cream over warm French toast.

  • Add extra cinnamon if you like!
