These Perfect Holiday Popovers are a family classic. Light, airy, and beautifully golden, they puff up tall and hollow with the most delicate buttery flavor. Served steaming hot with salted butter, honey, and a sprinkle of sea salt, they truly melt in your mouth. This is the recipe everyone asks for at Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or any cozy holiday meal.
🥣 Ingredients
-
6 teaspoons salted butter
-
1 ½ cups whole milk, warmed
-
3 large eggs, at room temperature
-
1 tablespoon salted butter, melted
-
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon kosher salt
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prep the Pan
Add 1 teaspoon of butter into each popover cup. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats to 450°F (230°C) so the butter gets hot and bubbly.
2. Make the Batter
In a bowl, whisk together the warm milk, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.
Add the flour and salt and whisk gently until just combined — don’t overmix. The batter should be thin.
3. Pour + Bake
Remove the hot popover pan from the oven. Carefully pour the batter into each cup, filling them about ¾ full.
Bake for 20 minutes at 450°F, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for another 15–18 minutes until tall, golden, and deeply puffed.
4. Serve Immediately
Popovers taste best right out of the oven while they’re piping hot and airy.
